Developing collaboration strategy for your partnership

This works best when you are setting up a new partnership and need to agree on how it will run — or when an existing collaboration has outgrown its old structure and partners need to find a new way of working together (including post-funding transitions).
The process takes three to six months.

  • Before the formal engagement begins, we have an intake interview with the partnership manager(s). We discuss the partnership's goals, its funding context, and any known pressure points.

  • We speak with each partner organisation separately — not in a group. Each conversation is confidential and covers their goals for the partnership, what they are bringing to it, what they need from it, and where they see potential friction.

  • We bring the partners together for a working session. We start by introducing what partnership governance actually involves, and what the real trade-offs are. Every partnership has to navigate tensions — between moving fast and keeping everyone involved, between allowing partners their independence and keeping the collaboration accountable. How you prioritise these shapes everything about how the partnership runs.

  • Based on the interviews and the joint session, we write a detailed report. It describes a suggested division of roles across the partnership and a prioritised roadmap of decisions to make. Every recommendation is linked to the reasoning behind it, so partners can apply the same logic to future questions rather than coming back to square one.

  • We present the draft to the partnership and discuss it together. What fits? What needs adjusting to work in your day-to-day context? We incorporate the feedback and deliver the final version.

    What you get

    • A governance framework suited to your partnership's goals and context;

    • A clear division of roles and responsibilities across partner organisations;

    • A decision-making protocol your whole partnership has agreed on;

    • A prioritised roadmap of next steps;

    • A report your partners can refer back to as the collaboration develops.

    After the engagement you can continue implementing the strategy independently — we hold three follow-up conversations (at one, three, and six months) to check in and course-correct if needed. If you would prefer ongoing support, a retainer arrangement is also possible.
